A Hainy Hydrant is a private fire hydrant system that connects to your home's water main, giving you professional fire hose and pressure to defend your property during a wildfire. Endorsed by first responders and credited with protecting 100+ California homes in real fires. Starting at $1,750.
"It started with my own family's home. After it worked, I helped my neighbors install theirs. So many homes were saved that we started offering Hainy Hydrant to anyone who wanted real fire protection on their property and not be left just hoping for a miracle."
Private fire protection defends a home by putting water on the structure in the first minutes of a wildfire, before the fire department can arrive. A Hainy Hydrant connects to your existing water main and delivers professional fire hose pressure, so embers and spot fires get knocked down the moment they land.
The homeowners who defended their houses had one thing in common: they were prepared long before the fire arrived. By the time it did, they never even needed the fire department. Hainy Hydrant gives you that same proven wildfire defense, training, and equipment, so you are prepared instead of left hoping empty-handed.
"People have installed security alarms because the police isn't always on their driveway. With fire, this works exactly the same way."

Over 100 California homes have been protected thanks to their Hainy Hydrant. In real wildfires, including the 2018 Woolsey Fire and the 2025 Palisades Fire, homeowners, neighbors, and first responders who arrived to help have used these hydrants to defend houses on the street. None of them were professional firefighters. They just had the equipment ready.
Brent Woodworth installed his Hainy Hydrant in Pacific Palisades years before the 2025 Palisades Fire reached his neighborhood. When it did, the hydrant gave him the water to defend his own house and two of his neighbors'. Brent is now Chairman of the LA Emergency Preparedness Foundation.
In the Malibu Canyon, one homeowner installed a Hainy Hydrant. His neighbors watched it work, and one by one, seven of them installed their own. Today there are eight Hainy Hydrants on that very street, the Sequit Fire Brigade, a fire-response network the neighbors built themselves.
It started in 2007, on Matt Haines' own family's property in Corral Canyon. Matt is a Malibu Call Firefighter and licensed contractor who built the first Hainy Hydrant after responding to too many fires where savable homes were lost.
The packages are affordable, the gear is professional, and the system is designed so any homeowner can learn to use it. We'll walk your property and show you what your home would need.
There are three layers of home fire protection: defensible space, home hardening, and fire suppression. Cal Fire and the National Fire Protection Association recommend all three, because each does something different and the best protection combines them. Here's how they work, what they cost, and where Hainy Hydrant fits.
The 100 feet around your home, kept clear of fuel that lets fire reach the structure. Required by California law in fire-prone areas. Best for: stopping fire before it touches the house. Limit: doesn't help once embers are landing on the structure. Do this first regardless of what else you install.
The house itself, Class A roof, ember-resistant vents, dual-pane windows, fire-rated siding. Best for: keeping embers from finding a way in. Limit: expensive ($20K-$100K+), can't be added quickly, won't help if embers find the one weak spot. Worth doing, however even the best hardened homes still burn.
A Hainy Hydrant is ready in seconds, the moment fire reaches your property. In the first critical minutes, when most savable homes are lost, having water on the structure is what makes the actual difference. Used as designed, the fire department often doesn't even need to step in.
We've built it so any homeowner, neighbor, or first responder on the scene can operate it, no power, no app, no specialized training required. This is the finishing layer of the three, the one that does the actual saving.
All three layers work together. The right combination depends on your property and your budget.
Find out what your home actually needs. A Malibu Call Firefighter walks your property, tests your water main, and gives you a written quote.
We come to your home, test your water main, walk the property, and recommend the right system for your specific setup. No obligation, no quote until you've seen your own numbers.

The Hainy Hydrant I installed provided the water last night needed to save my house and two of my neighbors during the Palisades Fire.
It gave us all a sense of control and security we'd never had before. Now we have eight Hainy Hydrants on our street.
Claims, framework, and research cited throughout this page come from the following authoritative sources. Hainy Hydrant's own outcome claims (100+ California homes defended, 100% save rate since 2007) are based on installation records and customer reports.
Hainy Hydrant does not guarantee that any home will survive a wildfire. Outcomes depend on fire conditions, property layout, defensible space, and how the system is deployed at the time of the event. The information on this page is provided for educational use.
